Anyone know what this coin is worth?

1866 1-cent coin. Indian head on 1-side with United States of America
written around the perimeter. Other side has a Shield at the top, Arrows at the bottom and the words One Cent in the middle. Thx.

Condition plays an important role in establishing "worth". You need to provide more info for even a guess. A pic would help to get you an educated guess.

Unfortunately I am not technologically proficient enough to provide a picture.
It looks to be in pretty good condition. Can you give me an range of values type of estimation? Thx.

Indian head cent?

Are the hairs clearly defined? Is the word "Liberty" visible in the head band.

This is the front of an MS 62 Indian head...meaing that it is "Mint State"/uncirculated. http://www.acoin.com/dave/18621c62o.jpg

This one is Almost Uncirculated (AU 50). http://www.acoin.com/dave/18721cauo.jpg

This would grade Very Good: http://z.about.com/d/coins/1/0/0/1/-...head-penny.jpg

"Pretty Good" condition could be worth anywhere from zero to say $200 wholesale. I'm not trying to be a smart ass but you must provide some relevant info for an relevant answer. I sincerely suggest you show the coin to a dealer or collector.

MS65 Slabbed 1864 no bids he wants $395.00

http://cgi.ebay.com/1864-Bronze-Indi...QQcmdZViewItem

He is not going to get $395.00 for this coin, nor will you get over $200
for your coin. Sorry for the bad news.

Re: Anyone know what this coin is worth?

Thanks for the responses. It is technically "circulated". I made a purchase at the local Grocery store yesterday and recieved it along with my other change. I am saving copper pennies so I am in the habit at looking at them when I get home. At first Glance I thought it was Canadian but after looking closer I about fell over. Based upon the pictures posted it appears to be better than very good but not as good as AU50. I took it to a coin shop and the guy said it was worth $6.00. I had it stuffed in a plastic baggie . Before I left with it he gave me one of those plastic coin holders to put it in.
So I guess the value of said penny is between $42.00 and $200.00.
So much for trusting the coin dealer I took it to.
Thx for all the info.

WM - those prices were for PGS certified coins. Even if the quality was exactly the same, they would be worth less than the posting without the official grade and package. Here is a list of recent eBay sales of the 1866 - http://search-completed.ebay.com/sea...p=1%26fsoo%3D2

Pretty good timing, maybe a grader can help me out here with 2 real world examples.

looking at "the official american nuismatic association grading standards" i figure the 1860 is very good and the 1882 is very fine. however, i am by no means a pro.

The 1860 recently sold for about $12 http://cgi.ebay.com/1860-Indian-Head...QQcmdZViewItem

The 1882s have been on sale for about $9 http://search-completed.ebay.com/search/search.dll?sofocus=bs&sbrftog=1&dfsp=1&catref=C5&s aaff=afdefault&sacur=0&fcl=3&frpp=50&from=R10&sasl op=1&saobfmts=exsif&fss=0&_trksid=m37&satitle=indi an+1+cent+1882&sacat=-1%26catref%3DC6&sargn=-1%26saslc%3D2&sadis=200&fpos=60515&sabfmts=1&fis=2 &ftrt=1&ftrv=1&saprclo=&saprchi=&fsop=1%26fsoo%3D2 &fgtp=

The web site listed is also notoriously high.

Re: Anyone know what this coin is worth?

ok so my coin is worth from $6.00 to say $100.00.
So maybe the coin dealer I took it to wasn't a crook after all.
thx.

The 1882 in the picture will lose some value because it has been harshly cleaned.
